About Sandra

“I want to make learning to frame fun, creative, and most important – profitable. Picture framing is a true art… the art of fine design and a skilled craft.” ~Sandra Landes

Good words to describe Sandra are ‘venerable’ and ‘seasoned.’

In 1979 Sandra hit the ground running when when she realized her gift for picture framing and dipped her toes into the world of business ownership. Her Southern California country gift store transformed into The Corona Gallery and then to Art to be Framed in the DeVargas Center in Santa Fe, New Mexico.

In these early years Sandra traveled frequently to Professional Picture Framer Association trade shows and events all across the country.   She received her Certified Picture Framer Designation at the PPFA Educational Conference in Chicago in 1988.  Vivian Kistler and Herb Coruthers (co-founder of C+H Equipment and inventor of the industry-standard mat cutters used in professional framing studios around the world) were among Sandra’s first workshop instructors.  Learning from the best in the industry, Sandra has always held herself and her work to a higher standard.  She proudly displays the PPFA Code of Ethics in her workshop.

Vivian Kistler

Kistler was a leading member of the custom picture framing industry and of PPFA, with service at the Chapter and national levels. She was awarded the PPFA Lifetime Achievement Award in 2009 and the PPFA Award For Innovation in 1999 – renamed by PPFA in 2010 as The Vivian Kistler Award of Recognition for Innovation. A well-known speaker and instructor, Kistler – who created and developed October as National Picture Framing Month – founded Columba Publishing in 1984 and produced the Library of Professional Picture Framing in addition to authoring over 20 more books and hosting more than 15 videos. The MCPF exam scholarship was created in 2010 by the PPFA Chapter Relations Committee to honor Kistler, who died in January 2010.

When her business focus changed to a more personal approach she moved her business to Mount Shasta, California and began offering personalized in-studio workshops.  Today she offers the same quality and professional touch in her studio on the banks of the Row River near Dorena, Oregon.
